Interview with Rika Bajacan

Hello My Name is Rika of @rikatrinaaa

Last Christmas, Althea approached one of our Althea Angels in Cabuyao, Laguna (Philippines) to carry out an important mission to spread Christmas cheer to the front liners and essential workers. It was a heart-warming collaboration with her, our ambassador which involved groundwork and dedication to give out a million peso worth of Kbeauty products from Althea.

A strong single mother of two, Rika not only showed perseverance and strength in her life but also knew what kindness meant for many. As such we didn't bat our eyelashes when we approached her on this "surprise" project together.

From collecting thousands of products, moving them, and packing each Althea box filled with 6 - 10 items. She went out her way just before Christmas to give 200 gift boxes on the streets and hospitals. Such an act of kindness from our Angel Rika is one of the reasons we interviewed her for our International Woman's Day article.  Thank you, Rika from all of us at Althea Korea 💖

Interview with Bubbly Vivi

Hello My Name is Vivian of @bubbly.vivi

Who would have thought a cosplayer would actually be a sweet but feisty young lady from a suburban town in Malaysia? We first got to know her when she started out reviewing beauty products from Althea and that her passion is so great, she would travel all the way from Perak to the city to attend one of our beauty workshops.

With her love of reviewing skincare products, she has started an Instagram channel dedicated to sharing reviews and content that she creates. We have seen her style changed from the time we stalked her, and we love how she continues to improve with her self-taught skills and improvement workshops such as the one she attended in the city.

Such passion and dedication to beauty are why we would love to interview her for our International Women's Day month. Secretly, we hope to see her cosplay more when she reviews beauty products!

Different Types of Hyaluronic Acid

Today, we'll be sharing all about Hyaluronic Acid and the products with Hyaluronic Acid that K-beauty lovers love!

First of all, what is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring branched carbohydrate or sugar found throughout our body’s connective tissue. In skincare, there are different types of hyaluronic acid that can be used in cosmetic formulations.

Although its name contains the word “acid”, Hyaluronic Acid does not exfoliate the skin like AHA or BHA, so it mixes well with others and is safe for sensitive skin.

How to use Vitamin C Products

How to use Vitamin C Products

Today, we'll be sharing all about how to use Vitamin C the yummiest ingredient that K-beauty lovers love!

When you think of Vitamin C, the first image to come up in your mind might be that of citrus fruits, but there's more to Vitamin C! To put it simply, Vitamin C is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in our skin. It helps to protect us from UV photo-damage, increases collagen production, and helps to reduces hyperpigmentation.

As we age, our production of Vitamin C starts to decline. It's important to include and incorporate skincare products with Vitamin C into your skincare routine to make up for this natural decline. When applied directly to the skin, Vitamin C can help increase collagen production, helping to strengthen the skin's barrier. It also increases your ability to fight free radicals, protecting your skin from cell damage and premature aging.

The most popular function of Vitamin C is, of course, brightening the skin. Hyperpigmentation (including sun spots, age spots, and melasma) occurs when melanin is overproduced in certain areas of the skin. It can also happen in areas where acne has healed. Vitamin C application has been shown to help reduce melanin production, and can even help fade dark spots and lead to a more even-toned complexion.

While all this sounds amazing, we suggest not applying raw citrus slices on your face! When you DIY, it may not be safe as there is no control over the quality & it's not as efficient. The Vitamin C (or Ascorbic Acid) that's present in skincare products has already been chemically altered, absorbing into our skin in a more efficient way and safely delivering its efficacies.

So when should you apply Vitamin C? We recommend incorporating it in both your day and night skincare routines.

Vitamin C has photoprotective properties and staves off oxidative stress from the free radicals we meet throughout our day. During the day, Vitamin C helps to fight radicals like smoke, pollution, and other nasty particles. Always use Vitamin C during the day with SPF. Your sun sensitivity may increase with just Vitamin C alone, but when paired with SPF, the two work together to boost the skin's protection from damage. Vitamin C’s protection and free radical-fighting prowess eventually wear off, but it is not easily wiped off or washed away like SPF. You can build up a reservoir in your skin by applying every eight hours, and it’s actually been found that topical vitamin C is best applied after exposure to UV light and not prior.

Finally, you may have heard of Vitamin C's oxidation. Vitamin C is usually difficult to formulate as it is prone to oxidation, and once it has oxidized, the Vitamin C is no longer effective. It's best to store your Vitamin C products (like serums) in a cool, dry space, away from heat and sunlight.

Now that you've learned more about this cult-fave ingredient, here are some of our recommended products with Vitamin C that you can incorporate into your routine (all of which are available on Althea at the best prices):
