Korean 10-Step Skincare Routine - Sensitive Skin

Always find yourself shocked when you catch yourself in the mirror? My skin wasn't this red when I left the house this morning! Redness and sensitivities can be difficult to deal with, especially when it comes to your complexion. We've previously sorted out the Korean 10-Step Skincare Routine for dry and oily/ acne prone skin types, and today we're going to tackle a routine suited for those of us with sensitive skins.

Sensitive skin types can be easily triggered, and using products with the wrong ingredients can lead to redness, itchiness or other allergic reactions. We've compiled some of our favorite products that soothe irritations, whisk away redness and overall improves the health of your skin. Here's our breakdown on the 10-step skincare routine for sensitive skins!

Step 1: Makeup Removers
While this section usually features oil-based cleansers, sometimes using something a little milder can do your skin some good. You'll still definitely want to double cleanse, but try this no-oil cleansing water instead. The SAEM’s Healing Tea Garden Green Tea Cleansing Water is a gentle but powerful cleanser that removes dirt and all kinds of residue on your skin, makeup included! It also doesn't contain any artificial pigments, synthetic fragrances, benzophenone, parabens, animal products, mineral oil or talc, making sure this doesn't irritate your skin.

Step 2: Cleanser
We love a gentle cleanser that not only doesn't irritate the skin, but also effectively removes dirt and oil from the skin. Innisfree's The Minimum Facial Cleanser is made with 99.9% natural ingredients, making this super skin-friendly. It pumps out as a foam into your hands, allowing the dense bubbles immediately work into the pores for clean skin without drying it out. No tightness here!

Step 3: Exfoliator
Keep the abrasions at a minimum with a peeling scrub like Primera's Facial Mild Peeling. This formula gently helps to resurface the skin, effectively removing the top most layer of dead skin cells and impurities to reveal a soft, smooth complexion underneath. This product is made especially for those with sensitive skins as it contains a biopolymer film that forms a protective barrier on the skin, keeping it safe and protected from harmful externalities.

Step 4: Toner
Choosing a toner can be quite a tricky one as your skin needs something calming and soothing without the sting astringent toners may come with. Try out one with water-based ingredients like Skinfood's Premium Lettuce & Cucumber Watery Toner. Made with cucumber and lettuce extracts, these hydro-balancing wonders plumps the skin up with hydration and soothes away redness as it helps prep for the steps that are to follow.

Step 5: Essence
Essences are packed full of ingredients that target your skin's needs, so it's essential that you find one with soothing and strengthening properties. Skin & Lab's Vitamin K Essence contains eggplant, spirulina and centella asiatica extracts too help calm irritations while improving the skin's barrier, strengthening it to reduce sensitivity.
Step 6: Ampoule
The Tea Cell Soothing Ampoule from A;t Fox is a slightly thicker one that has both soothing and hydrating properties. Infused with Jasoyup tea, this product helps balance out the pH levels of the skin, creating a healthy skin environment that improves its overall condition. Here's a little more info on this ampoule and all the others in its range!

Step 7: Mask
Cooling down the skin after a long day is crucial to ensuring your skin doesn't flush out of control. We love these Jumiso Whoa Whoa Soothing Mask Sheets from Hello Skin (that are really great for any skin type) to pamper the skin at the end of the day. These silky sheets are thin but retain lots of moisture, giving the essence that's formulated with manuka honey, beta glucan and ceramides a chance to really penetrate into the layers of the skin. The result? Plump, healthy skin that glows!

Step 8: Eye Product
Caolion is known for making products suited for those with sensitive skins, so it's no wonder it's on our list! The eye area is supremely delicate, so using a depuffing product made with good ingredients like the Freshly Cooling Eye Gel is perfect. With a quick-absorbing gel texture, this product helps to detoxify and brighten the eye area while ensuring it doesn't get irritated. Just gently tap into the skin for best results.

Step 9: Cream
This cream from Wangskin is definitely Mermaid-approved (I've got two tubs of my own at home!). Lightweight and quick absorbing, the Moist Soothing Cream applies onto the skin and immediately melts on, coating the skin in a calming layer. It contains papaya, potato, and archillea millefolium extracts as well as hydrolyzed collagen to keep the skin protected and moisturized throughout the day. It's also fragrance-free so you both your skin and nose can rest easy.

Step 10: Face Mist
We've included this as the last step as keeping a mist with you throughout the day can help to keep redness away. The sister of the infamous aloe vera gel, Nature Republic's 92% Soothing Gel Mist gives you all that goodness in an easy to use spritz bottle that's perfect to carry in your hand bag. Made with organic aloe extracts, this helps to cool down flushes caused by heat. Plus, spraying this over makeup helps to set it and keep it in place too.
Phew! That was quite a bit of information, wasn’t it? We hope this guide helps those of you out there with sensitive compelxions, and it paves the way for plump, radiant skin that'll make even a lightbulb jealous!
