Skincare New Year Resolutions



We've all heard the phrase "new year, new me". Well, here at Althea, we're trying something new in 2018: new year, new skin! There are some new year resolutions we keep to better ourselves mentally, physically or emotionally, but these ones are geared specifically to up your skincare game. Here are 5 simple and easy ones to start practising (if you haven't already) to really make the difference for your skin this year!



1. No more sleeping or working out with makeup on

When you're sleeping or working out, your skin's pores expand more, causing makeup residue to potentially seep in and clog them. This could lead to irritations, acne, redness and other consequences. Be sure to remove your makeup before catching some Z's or gains, and try a mist to keep the skin hydrated instead.

2. I will do my nighttime beauty routine

Sleep is delectable, isn't it? Especially when it's been a long, hard day and all you want to do is crash, lie down and drift away into dreamland. But hold up, you'll definitely want to apply on some skincare before you sleep as that's when your skin absorbs and renews itself the most. Adding that little bit of benefit to your skin can really make the difference between waking up looking like a zombie and "I woke up like this"! 3. I will exfoliate at least once a week

Exfoliation is sometimes overlooked in our beauty routine. Out of sight, out of mind, perhaps? Make it a point to exfoliate at least once a week to whisk away those dead skin cells, promote circulation and improve cell turnover for smooth, supple skin.

4. I will double cleanse

The Koreans have definitely perfected the method of double cleansing. It consists of using an oil cleanser to first, followed up by a foamy cleanser to rinse it all down the drain. This helps to not only ensure that makeup residue is removed but dirt and impurities from the skin are melted away too. It also helps prep and cleanse the skin for better skincare absorption.

5. I will sheet mask as often as I can

Sheet masks are essentially a pampering and treatment all in one. Keeping these handy will not only give you some serious points in the skincare game, but also save you the hassle of needing to rinse or peel off in the case of other masks. You can do sheet masks as often as every day, but we definitely recommend doing it at least twice a week.

  1. Thanks for this post Mermaid Syd. I’m a full time mom with 2 elementary kids, and a 2yr old daughter. Most of the time I spend my time inside the house with my kids. No makeup but with sunscreen before sending kids to school. I used cleansing foam during shower but not in my night skincare routine. During my night skincare routine, I used only cleansing water, exfoliate (2x a week), toner, serum, eye cream, moisturizer. Sheet mask if I have an extra time. What you think?
