How To Control Oil Secretion

Want to deal with your excess sebum once and for all?

Those with oily skin can totally relate to that icky, sticky feeling of having excess sebum on your face. Especially during these times when all of us are wearing face masks to stay safe, having excess sebum and an oily face may lead to more coagulated pores and breakouts.

Today, we'll be sharing some tips on how you can control your oil secretion, as well as some of our recommended products!

1. Cleanse your face gently
Having an oily face at the end of the day may prompt you to find a cleanser that leaves your skin squeaky clean, but this is a big no-no. Cleansers that make your skin feel "squeaky clean" are actually stripping your face of even more moisture. This leads your skin to produce more oil to compensate for that lack of moisture by producing more oil.

We recommend choosing a hydrating cleanser that gently cleanses your face, followed by more hydrating products to keep your skin nice and hydrated. Once your skin gets the message, it'll slowly stop producing excess oil.

We recommend: SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule Foam

Selling over 100,000 units since its first production in 2018, this toner has been renewed and is now more powerful than ever. Removing dead skin cells to effectively deliver the benefits of cica deep into the skin, this toner contains non-irritating ingredients like PHA that gently cleanses the skin.

2. Use an alcohol-free toner
Some toners with alcohol in the ingredients may be harmful and lead to more irritations, but gentle astringents like witch hazel or tea tree actually have anti-inflammatory properties that benefit those with oily skin types.

This may not be for everyone as some people with sensitive skin may experience some tingling sensations, so we recommend doing a small patch test before applying anything totally new to your skin.

We recommend: SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner

An irritation-free toner that's proven through and through, this contains 10,000ppm of tea tree. Working together with AHA, BHA, and PHA, this toner promises optimized skin in only 30 days. It may seem gimmicky, but the reviews are in and the consensus is that it really works!

3. Use blotting papers to absorb excess oil
Although blotting papers help to lift or remove any excess oil you may have on your skin should you really find it unbearable. We recommend keeping your blotting sheets clean and locked away from the other items in your bag as well for hygiene. You wouldn't want to use any sheets with dust or particles and wipe it directly onto your face!

We recommend: INNISFREE Jeju Volcanic Oil Control Paper

Made with Korean Mulberry Tree and Jeju Volcanic Clusters to absorb excess sebum and keep your skin shine-free, this convenient blotting paper is great to bring about on the go.

4. Use a clay mask
Clay is known to have great sebum absorbing properties, and using clay masks that do not over dry your face is a great way of removing excess sebum. Remember to follow it up with ample hydration for comfy, shine-free skin.

We recommend: INNISFREE Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2X

This 6-in-1 clay mask minimizes pores, controls sebum, exfoliates, deep cleanses, brightens skin tone, and cools down the skin. Containing volcanic extract and "super volcanic capsules" that burst upon application, it removes dead skin as it pampers your face with its goodness. The best part? It doesn't contain any mineral oils, animal products, artificial fragrances, or imidazolidinyl urea so it won't irritate the skin.

5. Incorporate gel moisturizers into your routine
If you're someone with oily skin, it's best to take note of the texture of products before using them. Usually lighter products like those with a gel or milky texture work well for those with oily skin. Not only do they penetrate better into the skin, but they also do not leave you feeling stuffy. Sometimes when products are too thick, they do not penetrate fully into the skin and end up "sitting" on the top layer of our skin. Not only does this cause our skin to have trouble breathing, but it may also end up adding extra shine to your face.

We recommend: MAMONDE Rose Water Gel Cream

With the extracts of Bulgarian Damask roses, this lightweight, non-sticky gel soothes dryness and calms irritations while keeping the complexion nice and hydrated. The nutrients of these roses are preserved using a special low-temperature distillation process, ensuring your skin gets as much TLC as possible.
